No longer theoretical

Okay so I (Gary) had to post an update after Angela's first doctors appointment today. It was such a neat experience for both of us. Up until now I kind of felt like we were only theoretically pregnant. Even though three pregnancy tests had told me that we were going to have a child it did not seem real since Angela is not showing yet or anything. Today we had our first appointment with Angela's OBGYN (we really like him by the way). During the exam the doctor let us listen to see if there is a heart beat yet. Angela is about 10 weeks along and he said that is when you typically can start to hear the heart beat. It was so cool when he found it. It was so cute to hear this little heart racing along. That was the first time it really seemed real to me that we are going to have a child come into our family. The heart beat sounded like this.

Later in the exam he did an ultrasound to verify how far along Angela is. That was not scheduled, but he had time so we were able to actually see the baby in there kicking around. It was so funny because the baby was so active. I did not realize how active it would be already at this stage in it's development. It was kicking his/her legs around and throwing it's arms around. It even whacked it's head a couple times. We hope that is not a bad sign ;) I was surprised how clear the ultrasound was to me. When I have seen ultrasound pictures on the internet of babies at this stage it always seemed hard to tell what was what. But when you can actually see it in motion it all seems much clearer. Needless to say today was a good day for both Ang and myself.
Here is a grainy picture of the next Tenney to come into the world.

The baby is upside-down. It's head is as big as it's body. You can see both arms and the legs are tucked below.

It looks like Angela's official due date will be around August 18. The day after my birthday!

Good News

So we really need to post some pictures from our trip to Israel with Gary's family. And we promise to do that soon. But in the meantime...
We're pregnant!
And we are so excited! I'm due in August (I find out the exact date next week hopefully). August is a pretty busy month since that's when both our b-days are and our anniversary. So maybe we'll hit one of those days.
As for me I am perplexed as to why its called "morning sickness" because I am usually sickest at night! I guess everyone is different. Anyways if you have any advice for us let us know! :)

Alright this first tag is from Nicole and its all about my hubby. I think you'll enjoy this!

1) His family (Tenneys, Richardsons, Winwards, Mangums and Me!)

5) Scottsdale, AZ
6) Flagstaff, AZ

1) serve a mission with me
2) complete his PhD

2) mexican (Filiburtos carne asada burrito, yum)
3) La Grande Orange Pizza, specifically The Gladiator
4) Ted's Hot Dogs
5) this is a drink...but he loves Root Beer...only the really good stuff from Pops

5 Things you may not Know about him:
1) When he was a kid he was a KJ fan (Suns again) and instead of getting his autograph he gave KJ a picture he drew (how cute)
2) He won the Turkey Trot in fifth grade
3) He likes to do home decorating even more than me! He has great taste and he always knows what to pick for our house.
4) He loves creepy Alfred Hitchcock movies (Vertigo, Rear Window...the list goes on and on)
5) He used to want to open his own scuba shop. He's a great scuba diver.

5 Quirky things about Gary:
1) This man is crazy organized. He really likes things to have a place. You could eat off the floor of his car!
2) He sets his alarm 45 minutes before he needs to get up, so he can snooze it that entire time. Which leads to the next item...
3) He is such a night owl. I am the same way. Its good and bad, because we both are not morning people, but its hard for us to get to bed on time.
4) He wishes more things were built to be repaired, not disposed of. For example: clothing, watches, shoes, etc... I can't really explain it well, but just ask him...he can.
5) Gary should be a movie critic. His critiques last longer than most movies.

Well, Gary is amazing and I still learn new things about him all the time. He's a great husband. He is always so patient and easy to be with and he works so hard in school and teaching...he's the best!
This next picture is from Becky's tag....so here it is...the fourth picture in my fourth folder...

This is the beach at Rocky Point from our trip this summer with my family. We had a blast walking around in the beautiful weather.
So there it is!

Oh my gosh!

Okay so I had to share this funny thing that Angela did the other day. We were both browsing the internet together on my laptop before going to bed. We were looking at some pictures of different actors on the red carpet for some movie premier that I can't remember. Well when we saw this goofy picture of Viggo Mortensen standing in an awkward pose Angela let out, "Oh my gosh!" Now when she did this she sounded just like Kristen Wiig on the SNL skit called "Suprise Party."

This is the picture of Viggo Mortensen.

I know it is not that goofy but the way she said it sounded just like this:

We both got a good laugh afterward when we realized at the same time who she sounded exactly like. Anyways, watch the video if you want a good laugh.

NaNoWriMo- huh?

We only have two days left!! For those of you who don't know...

November is National Novel Writing Month! (AKA NaNoWriMo) What is this? you ask. Its writing a novel in one month. No I'm not kidding. I know it sounds insane. Let me explain.

First, this requires little or no previous outlining. You simply write. Whatever you want to write about is fine. You just go! No serious editing. No detailed outline needed. Just writing for writing's sake, letting the plot take you where it may. Let me just say... its two days away and I hardly know what I will be writing about...but that's the fun of it! You simply go to the website (posted below) and pick a username (its all free). You simply type up part of your novel each day on your word processor and upload it to the NaNoWriMo site and they track your progress for you. And its private. People aren't reading your novel. Its for you. At the end you get a little certificate saying you completed it. And the satisfaction of knowing you did something truly creative!
Here's the site: www.nanowrimo.com

Now I know its not going to be super easy. I hear that week three is like hell (sorry). But I'm hoping I can push through and create something fairly crappy but super creative! If you are brave enough to try it or want to see if I am actually following through with this my username is AngelaKay. You can add me as a buddy or just see how much of my novel I completed. I better get my creative juices flowing...

Another Whim

Now I (Angela) usually fall asleep watching children's movies. But I was at Walmart and there was a Redbox there. I just couldn't pass up a movie that costs $1 and has Natalie Portman, Jason Bateman and Dustin Hoffmann in it. I just couldn't. (And there were no other movies) So I rented Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium. I wasn't expecting much. Critics all hated it. Gary told me earlier that it was one I should rent and watch while he was in class (translation: "please don't make me watch that Angela") But, I had to see for myself. And can you say funny and amazing? I thought the writing was super clever and the story was great. Its got the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory feel and the magic of a christmas movie. And of course it delivers great messages too.

Mr Magorium: I've hired an accountant.
Molly: What?
Mr Magorium: Its a cross between a counter and a mutant.

Mr Magorium: Your life is an occasion, rise to it.

This part was just too funny.
Another blogger wrote that "it is everything good about movies." And I was halfway through the movie when Gary came home from class and he was laughing out loud during some parts with me. Its darn funny writing. Remember in Father of the Bride when he's running around the grocery store, having a meltdown and he freaks out about how hot dogs and hot dog buns never come in the same quantity? ("George Banks is saying NO!") Well that issue comes to light again in this movie. Its adorable. That about sums it up.

Forever

So yes its been well, forever since we have blogged. So here some things (mostly from my perspective) that have gone down in the Tenney household since we last wrote. Number 2 on the list explains our internet absence.

1) I (Angela) got job. (Which I had to take an IQ and personality test for, it was interesting) So now I work for an orthodontist here in town. I am no longer a bum! Yay for me! And our checkbook!

Aren't these masks super creepy?

2) We had 5 different internet installers from Quest come to our house and "fix" our internet. And it still didn't work. So we just signed today with another company and voila! here we are.

(Nothing against Quest. I think its where we live.)

3) We explored our downtown and discovered some of the coolest shops. My personal fave has got to be PJ Chilcottage. I call it Anthropology meets Lush. My heaven.

Amazing soap.

4) I started crafting like a madwoman. I watched Martha Stewart while I was an unemployed bum and was inspired several times over. Poor Gary. Our living room was a craft room for weeks.

5) We drove by Lake Mary and saw a huge herd of elk running around and making crazy noises. We later were driving down the road and came across more just slowly making their way across the highway. I gasped loudly and scared the crud out of Gary.

6) I started cooking regularly. We aren't sure if this is a positive or a negative yet. Jk

7) Everyone I have ever known became pregnant! That's an exaggeration I know. Congratulations all you pregnant ladies out there!
8) I discovered that Flagstaff has a disturbing amount of creepy mannequins. Pictures to follow at a later post.
